Birth as a low caste, a Dalit, in Nepal means that you are not only expected, but also made, to live in shame and poverty. In an effort to escape from that, they go looking for foreign employment but lacking in funds and education, fall victim to loan sharks and trafficking.
A wintry visit to our project site to add additional cages to the pond, to give a presentation about the fishery to the community, and to assess the financial conditions of families of some of the Dalit children attending Raithane School.
People and luck intervened in my life a number of times. One of those times luck intervened, I got to go to the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy for two years. It's to provide that kind of intervention to deserving children that I have returned to Nepal.

We are in the process of completing a series of SBE and SIP related projects we have been conducting at Dolagiri School in Changu Narayan just outside of Bhaktapur. The seven-month long project involving infrastructure and resource upgrades and the establishment of two SBE projects is nearing its end. Read the blog for specifics.
