Recently, I read a troubling bit of news on Ratopati…troubling enough to want to reproduce and translate it for those who can’t read Nepali.
First the news.
राजधानीको म्हैपीमा गोली चल्यो, पाँच जना पक्राउ: यसरी भयो घटना

काठमाडौं – राजधानीको मैह्पीमा आज बिहान गोली चलेको छ ।
गोली लागेर गोरखा लाप्रक स्थायी घर भएका २३ बर्षीय कल्याण गुरुङ घाइते भएका छन् । उनको दाइने खुट्टको घुडा मुनि (पिडौला)मा गोली लागेको छ ।
आज बिहान साढे ४ बजेको समयमा उक्त घटना भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।
प्रहरीले घटनामा संलग्न मूख्य अभियुक्तसहित पाँच जनालाई पक्राउ गरेको महानगरीय प्रहरी परिषर, काठमाडौंका प्रमुख रबिन्द्र धानुकले जानकारी दिए ।
स्कुटरमा गइरहेको बेला एक समूहले बाटो छेकेर गोली प्रहार गरेको प्रहरी अनुसन्धानबाट खुल्न आएको छ ।
यसरी भयो घटना
-ठमेलको एक डिस्कोमा ती युवक(कल्याण गुरुङ)ले एकजना केटीलाई जिस्काएका थिए ।
-गुरुङ स्कुटर लिएर ठमेलबाट निस्किए ।
-केटीका केटा साथीहरुले गाडिबाट स्कुटरलाई पिछा गरे ।
-म्हैपी पुगेपछि स्कुटरलाई उक्त समुहले रोक्यो ।
-स्कुटर रोकेर गुरुङलाई गोली प्रहार गरे ।
पक्राउ पर्नेहरुको नाम प्रहरीले सार्वजनिक गरेको छैन । थप अनुसन्धान जारी रहेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।
घाइते गुरुङको शिक्षण अस्पतालमा उपचार भइरहेको छ । उनको अवस्था समान्य रहेको चिकित्सकले बताएका छन् ।
Here’s my translation.
Shots Fired in Mhyepi, Five Apprehended: Here’s What Happened

Kathmandu – Shots were fired this morning in Mhyepi.
Kalyan Gurung, the 23-year old victim from Laphrak, Gorkha, has been severely injured. He was shot on his right calf.
According to the police, the incident took place at 4:30 this morning.
As per information furnished by the Kathmandu [Police] Head Rabindra Dhanuk, five, including the suspect, have been caught.
Police investigation into the incident found a group to have blocked the scooter the victim was traveling on and shot him.
This Is What Happened
- The victim teased a girl at a disco in Thamel [the nearby tourist district].
- Gurung left Thamel in a scooter
- Boy friends of the girl followed the scooter in a vehicle
- On reaching Mhyepi, the group stopped the scooter
- [the group] shot the victim after stopping the scooter
The police haven’t released the names of those caught. The police added that the investigation is ongoing.
The victim is undergoing treatment at The Teaching Hospital. Medical staff have described his condition as stable.
