Nepal Earthquake: Friend Doing His Bit to Help The People of Nepal Rebuild

  • Post category:Projects
READING TIME: 2 minutes

Following the recent earthquake in Nepal, COMMITTED decided to engage in relief and reconstruction work in our project site of Thangpalkot as per the need of the time. We started a fundraising drive to finance our work. Many friends around the world have also offered to raise funds on COMMITTED’s behalf to help us with this work. (Click here or here or here or here for details of some friends doing just that.)

Breeze is another friend of COMMITTED’s in Vermont who has committed himself to raising funds for us. Reproduced below is his fundraising drive. (Links are my own addition.)

Help The People of Nepal Rebuild
After Two Devastating Earthquakes

ear-rings

I’m a professional inlay artist who returned from Nepal carrying scraps of wood cut long ago in Ghandruk (an incredible Gurung village in the hills facing Annapurna South) and Chitwan National Park and have produced a series of approx. 108 earrings that I am selling to send money to Community Members Interested (COMMITTED) based in Kathmandu.

Though this group normally focuses on education and equal opportunities, they are currently, during this crisis, focusing direct help on an area in the particularly hard hit district of Sindhupalchok. Manaslu is requesting that this money go through this Nepali channel straight to where it needs to go.

The earrings will sell for $42.00, $4200.00 will be donated, 8% to cover my expenses.  My studio is located in the Cotton Mill. 3rd Floor, North End next to the circus school and can be reached at tbreeze@sover.net for inquiries in regards to the earrings.

The earrings will have some variations in them, but are mostly represented in the image above. Please give me a preference order with A-Left,  B-Middle/Left, C-Middle/Right, D-Right. I will mail them for $2.00 to a USPS address.

PLEASE LEAVE A PHONE NUMBER AS WELL!

SEND CHECKS TO:

T. BREEZE VERDANT
74 COTTON MILL HILL UNIT A333
BRATTLEBORO, VT 05301

Checks to be made out to “Community Members Interested.”

I will mail them upon receiving the order/not waiting for the check.

ghandruk
Ghandruk, Nepal, where I was given a discarded partial piece of furniture from the community firewood pile. I don’t know what the wood is, but it is a mountain wood as it has growth rings. Very old piece, all cut by hand.

Chitwan National Park.  I got the resort that we were staying eat to find me a piece of wood.  It came from their refusepile and is "Sal", which literally means house.  It is also tied up in the Buddha's stories.  This wood probably was cutat least 100 years ago.  It was deeply cracked and a kind of yellow color (A fencepost!  Think what was walking around it). Tropical wood, no growth rings.
