READING TIME: 2 minutes

Following up on the last update containing information and resources for people on the ground in Nepal…I have reproduced below a FB PM circular I received recently about a tool.

Kathmandulivinglabs.org has launched a very very useful online tool for reporting incidents and mobilizing relief.

Here are the links to the tool:

http://quakemap.org OR http://www.kathmandulivinglabs.org/earthquake/

What you as an individual or organization can do with this tool:

  • Report any incident, request help, or submit information about shelter areas.
  • Add comments/updates if you are providing relief to any of the requests for help.

To report an incident, go to the website and fill out the form (PREFERRED) OR Send an SMS to 9860782874 or 9802017413 OR E-mail kathmandulivinglabs@gmail.com.

Things to remember when filling out an incident report:

  1. Give it an appropriate title
  2. In the description, describe what you are reporting. Be specific with numbers and needs and anything else (such as duration).
For example, if you are requesting help with food, shelter and medical personnel, say, “We need food and shelter and medical team for 500 people who have gone without food for the last 3 hours.”
It’s imperative that contact information with mobile number is also included with the information for volunteers or others or response team to verify the information and enable them to act on it.
  3. Add the location by either clicking on the map, or searching for the location.
  4. Select a category.
  5. Finalize and submit the form.

Relief Organizations and Volunteers:

If you are an organization or volunteer group, look at the incident reports and if you are able to act on a specific report, please make note of it in the comment section.

Please specify what you are going to do, what organization/group you belong to, and the mobile number for the contact person(s).

Once you have fulfilled the request, please update the status of the incident report in the comment section, and we will mark it as completed.

Or, if you know someone who can act on it, put that information in the comments, and our volunteers will try get a hold of them and follow up.
